THIS NEEDS TO BE REWRITTEN but here u go anyway for now
Carota's backstory was originally written in comic form, but even though I finished this just a year ago, I'm really embarrassed by it so I'm just going to explain what Carota's big deal about hiding herself is, and in doing so, I'll explain the plot to the comic I drew.
Carota had grown up in Francport, and lived with her mother, father and brother. However, in order to size down, the family of four moved to Bondeville (loosely, "crowded town") when Carota and Caelus were seventeen. Basically speaking, it was not quite the safest place to be for a young, pretty girl like Carota, so her parents entrusted Caelus to go with his sister whenever she ventured outside. At their high school, both made a mutual friend, Brandon, and Carota made friends with Dana and Coco.
When college time approached, both siblings wanted to take different career paths, Caelus being a vet and Carota being a patisserie. Knowing that his dream school was miles and miles away while Carota's choice was still quite close to Bondeville, not to mention she intended to stay at home, Caelus went to college with Carota and, in that time, made friends with Josh, Cane... and Jay.
Carota became mutual friends with Josh and Cane, but was never quite sure about Jay. She would hang out with them so long as Caelus also came, and when not with them, she would hang out with Dana and Brandon, whom Caelus trusted enough to leave Carota with. Eventually, there was a balance, and for a while, everything seemed fine. Things started to get hazy whenever Caelus got his first well-paying job interview - this job would help him financially to prepare for a veterinarian career, but it would also affect the time he takes to escort Carota.
After bowling with their friends, Carota and Caelus were invited to Jay's house to play Smash Brothers the weekend after. At first, Carota and Caelus were up for this, but the day before they were to go visit, Caelus found out he had a second interview that was crucial to him getting his job. Assuming Carota would back out of the hang out after realizing he could not go, Caelus was shocked to see that Carota had not lost interest. Carota was hard to shake, so she called Coco to see if she could get a ride. Dana, who was with Coco, picked up the phone instead, and denied the request, saying that Jay was slick and that she really shouldn't wander without Caelus. Gravely insulted, Carota hung up and Caelus asked Brandon to take her instead.
See, Brandon was on guard mode with Carota because he did not have his car, forcing the two to walk to Jay's apartment. On the way, he noticed that men started to look at Carota and make comments more than they would had Caelus been with her, and having not been quite sure why Caelus was so adamant on escorting Carota places, he understood then and decided to be a protector of Carota. In doing so, he would choose not to act on his romantic feelings for Carota, but he felt it a small price to pay.
Anyway, they got to Jay's house and Brandon was immediately threatened that there are no other girls at this get-together. But they were all playing Smash Bros and the two of them joined in, and it seemed to not be so bad. Brandon noticed that Carota would decline every time Jay offered a drink, even soda. When Carota asked where the restroom was, Josh and Cane appeared concerned when Jay got up to lead her to it. Brandon asked what the matter was, and Cane said that they heard it going around that Jay was an emotional abuser. Josh countered by saying it was true, as Jay tried to guilt his friend Dana into going out with him, and knowing the two were lead away from the party, he was worried of what Jay would say to her.
Meanwhile, Jay asked Carota if she was a positive that she did not want a drink, even a nonalcoholic one, and Carota harshly declined on the suspicion that he could have drugged it. Jay verbally lashes out; without even hearing what was said, Brandon ran into the hallway. Jay denied having done anything to the drinks, but twisted the knife by saying that there's no guarantee anyone else wouldn't. "After all, people only ever hang out with you because you're Caelus's hot sister. And since he's not here, it's time you figured that out." Brandon rejected the idea, but Jay told him to stop being a white-knight, especially since Carota wasn't interested in him either (which Brandon hastily responds "that doesn't matter"). Carota immediately left and Brandon went after her, knowing she should not be alone, and when they leave, Josh, Cane, and the other guys give Jay the stink eye. In the comic I left what happens afterwards ambiguous.
Alone, Carota was soon approached by strange men who said thing along the lines of "Oh, your brother's not here?" which made Carota start to believe what Jay said. Brandon grabbed Carota's hand and ran away with her to get away from the crooks, but Carota eventually let go of his hand and told him she was going to drop out of college and move away. Brandon couldn't blame her, but did not quite realize that she intended to leave the very next day. Before she left, he professed his feelings and was promptly rejected.
To eliminate what seemed to be the only thing that made people like her, Carota borrowed some of Caelus's shirts and hid her body, did some self-barbering, and moved to Undella. However, people still seemed to like her anyway. And thus ends this really long backstory.
*Note: Jay is a human, not the bird from Animal Crossing.
**However, Coco is indeed the rabbit from said game.
